David studied art at Ravensbourne and Slade schools of art and taught fine art for many years in colleges of art throughout the UK. He works across a range of media including photography, printmaking and three dimensional disciplines. However since moving to Wales, he has concentrated more on painting.
His recent practice has been influenced by the landscape. Exploring the hills and summits of North Wales and Snowdonia has facilitated an instinctive visual response to the geography of the area.
David loves the expressive mark making possibilities of using oil paint, moving the surface, reworking and improvising. He often incorporates liquid wax in these works for greater mobility of the painting medium. The results are more about the experience of the landscape rather than a representation of it.
