Merry Hawkyard

Merry is an artist and professional astrologer living and working from a little cottage on the outskirts of Bethesda, at the very edge of the Snowdonia National Park. As an artist, she specialises in creating colourful animal artwork inspired by nature, magic and myth, and also offers commissions for enchanted pet portraiture and intuitive spirit animal illustrations. It is her belief that there is so much unseen magic woven into the world, and her hope that through her work she can help others begin to discover it for themselves.

Her first love was horses, and her faithful studying of them as a child taught her how to draw - observing shape, colour and movement - and how to pay attention to the world. As she grew up, the mysterious, intuitive, empathic language of the horse would later awaken in her what she describes as a profound respect for the natural world, and the unspoken understandings that are shared between human and animal, tree and plant, river and stone, earth and sky. She saw spirit and connection in everything, and later on in her early twenties (despite an academic background in equine science!) her various fascinations with nature, creative practices and spiritual traditions would lead her to a new love affair with the stars and the stories that they can tell us about our lives.

Today, she calls herself “an artist of wild and whimsical things and an astrologer for creative souls”. As well as creating her animal artwork imbued with enchantment and sparkle, she guides other artists and creative humans (a phrase which she says includes all humans, because one of the things that she believes defines the human condition is our innate ability to create) using the wisdom, symbolism and secrets hidden within their unique astrological birth charts. She also loves to write, and has recently begun a new project in the form of a blog called Wild Stars & Wellsprings: Musings on Art, Animals & Astrology which can be found on her website along with the rest of her work..
