Paul O'Leary

Paul is a local Artist living in Llangernyw Abergele. This Collection of paintings uses enamel paints to recreate Welsh landscapes from the coast and walks around Betws-y-Coed

Solid blocks of colour reminiscent of 20th Century travel posters are used to evoke the feeling of different times of day, at dusk, for example, when trees and natural landscapes become more solid and a complex layered landscape is reduced to silhouettes.

Flying birds are a recurring theme. Being in nature is the core of Paul’s work. Living on a narrowboat reinforced the connection with the natural world, and how this connection sometimes evades us is lost in our fast-paced lives.

Making images that connect us to the idea that it's ok just to stop, live in the present, and enjoy seeing the seasons change is at the heart of the process.

The paint's gloss finish is flat and glass-like enough for the viewer to see themselves and be part of the piece, and Paul invites you to step into the landscape he has created.
