Gary is a self taught watercolour artist based in Cheshire UK. His interest and talent for drawing was recognised from an early age, and gratefully encouraged by his parents and teachers throughout his school years.
Leaving school in 1974 at the age of sixteen he became a member of the S,L,A,D,E Artist Union, gaining an apprenticeship to work with an established studio producing artwork for new Wallpaper designs. He proceeded to work within the wallpaper design and print industry for 47 years until taking early retirement in 2020.
During these early years he was introduced to a variety paint mediums, however once he discovered watercolor he never looked back, falling in love with the challenge of watercolour painting. For him he has only ever desired to paint with watercolours. And his watercolour landscapes have been shown in various galleries and exhibitions. As well as private collections.
In 1996 he received his first prestigious watercolour award whilst exhibiting at The British Watercolour Society exhibition, Ilkley ,Yorkshire, he was a show prize winner, awarded with Highly Commended and elected Companion of the International Guild of Artist.
In 2020 he took early retirement. Which gave him the freedom to spend more time with his family and devote quality time to his life long love of painting watercolour landscapes. And for the past five years he has regularly painting and throughly enjoying getting out and about embracing the wonderful challenge of painting "Plein Air"
Recently in 2024 he had three paintings accepted in to the 39th Castle Arts Open in Cheshire. And was the Watercolour prizewinner at the Calderdale plein air competition held in Hebden Bridge. He also enjoys being part of the instargram art community posting regularly - gmwatercolours.
Gary - likes to paint bold watercolour landscapes, playing with the light and colour. A traditional "en plein air" watercolorist.
He is thrilled to be exhibiting a collection of his watercolour landscapes with Artworks2 Celf as a Guest Artist with two exhibition dates, 20th December to 16th January 2026, and from the 14th March to 10th April 2026.
