Brian Howes

Brian started painting in oils on his eightieth birthday. Since then he has enjoyed experimenting with the ways in which oils can be used to express forms, light and moods of the North Wales landscape.

He exploits different styles to express his feelings about his subject and uses concepts of value, opacity, temperature and saturation to create familiar yet intriguing images.

Brian would like to acknowledge the expert and valued tuition received from Martin Kinnear of the Norfolk Painting School over the past 5 years. Martin has helped Brian to develop his technical painting skills as well as providing the impetus to keep spending time on the brush and the inspiration to explore new styles and challenge the boundaries of his creativity.
